D'oh! You are absolutely right, and sorry for not posting full postconf -n earlier. I didn't even know that was possible, but there's a sleep 1 in smtpd_client_restrictions. I'm not sure why it didn't seem to behave the same way on the old system, but that's exactly it. So, falls into 'the system did what I asked it to' category; sorry for the noise. w
