This is system-dependent:

    $ openssl version -d
    OPENSSLDIR: "/usr/pkg/etc/openssl"

Look there for a file called "certs.pem" and/or a directory called
"certs".  The directory is not searched directly, its contents are
indexed (or hashed) via "c_rehash" or similar.
