Yes, so called "zone apex cnames" are a common abuse of DNS requirements
to meet customer demand until "SVCB" and "HTTPS" records eventually take
over that rĂ´le.

MX records are not required to receive email, just A and sometimes even
just AAAA records are sufficient.
