I guess you're talking about W2K's Active Desktop here where
it doesn't backup/cache first the bitmap file, it just loads
the converted bmp file directly from the memory, I think.
It behaves differently in WXP, first save the bmp file in
HDD and load it as a Wallpaper.

Anyway, I just found a commandline util which changes the
wallpaper via 'Active Desktop', i.e., without first
converting the jpeg file into the bitmap file by itself.
My wish is that PP got this functionality, needless to say...

If I have to use an external tool to convert the jpeg file
into bitmap file, I would rather use the "Set Wallpaper"
function of the IrfanView directly as
"i_view32.exe my_jpeg_file /wall=0 /kill..."

The reason I don't like to use an external tool is that
the background of my bar wouldn't be updated accordingly
since PP can't know the change of the wallpaper in this case.
(:The wallpaper is the background of my bar)
I have to reset the same (bitmap) wallpaper once again using
"Wallpaer.ChangeTo(IrfanView_wallpaper.bmp)"
only to inform PP the change of the wallpaper...
