Mike or anyone else:
I have just checked the cables where they attach to the motherboard (I
think -- this is just behind the processor?) and they did not seem to be
loose; moreover, upon rebooting, the badnews line was still present.
I checked Apple's website for the below-mentioned manuals but the one I
found did not provide any under-the-hood assistance, no doubt because they
really don't want you in there.
I guess I'm buying a used screen off ebay... :(
