Don't know about the pics, but in actual practice
tightening the hinge screws is easy--no need to remove
anything but the two little plastic covers on each end
of the monitor hinge. Just pinch the front and back of
these covers together with your fingers to disengage
the tabs, then lift up. Careful with the right cover
because the monitor ribbon is inside it. IIRC you need
a #8 torx to tighten the screws--just be careful not
to overtighten and snap the heads off the screws.

Many seemingly dead PB 5xx batteries can be brought
back; e-mail off-list if you want some instructions
for this.

Used RAM is really cheap for these machines; IIRC 32
MB cost me about $40 off eBay.

To read from my external HD, the HD has to be switched
on before booting. If you don't do this you'll need
SCSI mounting software to mount this disk after
booting. My external RW drive requires Toast and/or
Adaptec Direct CD for writing.

Make sure you have a terminator immediately between
the PB and the SCSI cable leading to your external
drive--I fried my internal HD once when I forgot this
terminator.

Cheers,
Don Silver
