My Yamaha external 6416 worked fine with Toast 4 on a G3/217 upgraded 1400/OS
9.1. I didn't try any fast speeds, but it worked fine with 2x burns. The
7600/604e-200 that I normally use for burning works at the same speeds, The
slowdown appears to be the hard drive. The CPU can handle much faster speeds. I
tried a burn from a 7200 RPM SCSI 3 HD via a SCSI 3 PCI card in the 7600 and
the burn speeds went up to the 6x max that this burner allows. Disk to Disk was
limited to 1x-2x, but that may be because of the SCSI 1 parts of the external
chain to which the second CD drive was connected. (I had by then made the
burner an "internal" in the 7600 to take advantage of the SCSI 2 bus.)
