I feel for you, Dan. 
My 3400c (180 MHz, 80 MB Ram) still needs that active
SCSI external device to boot, hence no portability.

I'm pretty sure it's the mob. This most likely started
a few months ago when I dropped it on a hard floor. I
will part it out - CD-Rom 12x in its original packing,
floppy module, 64 MB Ram module, original 1.3 Gig HDD,
2 AC adapters (M4896) and 2 excellent Li-Ion batteries
(M3654). I will also part out the screen (no bad
pixels) and mob separately.
If anyone is interested, please contact me offlist for
