Please forgive my tardy response as I'm a bit behind in some of my email. Yeah, I've got some experience. I've got a PB 540c running OS 8.1 and a Rev C PCMCIA module. I've been using a MacWireless card (802.11b or "Wi-Fi") since Christmas with great success, in fact, I used it at the Apple Store over the weekend to download my email while my wife was over at Nordstrom's. I currently have the processor upgraded to the PPC version, but it worked just fine earlier this year with the '040 processor before I installed the upgrade in June. I've only had to contact their support once and they cleared my problem up completely by return email. <www.macwireless.com> I can't speak for the Lucent/Agere cards but I'm pretty sure that the Apple AirPort card is not usable in our machines (it doesn't exactly fit into a PCMCIA slot, as I understand it).
