Here's the problem and what I want to do:

I've set up a startup "drive" using a 128meg CompactFlash card on my PB
5300c 40 meg (80 doubled) ram, and it works fine, most of the time. I've
had a few instances where I was told there wasn't enough desktop space
when I was unstuffing a file. Reverting to the PB's 1 gig hard drive
solves that immediate problem, but it got me to thinking and I thought I
had a long-term answer, but I can't seem to get it to implement.

I thought if I could rename the CF's desktop folder and put a desktop
folder alias from the HD onto the CF that would solve the problem - use
the HD for the desktop when booting from the CF. I AppleTalked the 5300
to my 520c, and have been able to create the alias and move it to the CF,
but, even starting up the 5300 from an external drive, I can't seem to
unlock/move/rename the CF's original desktop folder. If I could do that,
should the 5300 use the alias? I have ResEdit, and BBedit Lite, and have
tried using both to rename the folder, with no luck. (if there's
something I'm missing using these, I can't tell.)

So--does what I'm trying to do make sense, and what do I do to get it to
work?

Later.................Howard
