I picked up a program called PRAM Battery Checker (v1.02) that checks the condition of your battery every time you start up your PB (providing you put the program in the startup items folder.) - It'll tell you if your battery needs replacing, or if it's ok.
I can't remember off the top of my head where I picked it up from, but a google search should find it for you easily enough.
