Only on the 140 did I have a problem, and perhaps that was because the drive was a (then) unsupported IBM 500 MB 2/5" SCSI drive. Support for that drive was added to later MacOSes, but it didn't exist in 7.1.1, which is about all my 140 could run. Still, for PB drives of 1.3 GB and under, I initialize them as a single partition. And extended if for 8.1 or above.
