Check the IDE interface connector in the 3500 very thoroughly. This is an 
extension of the IDE bus which also carries power.

My guess is the 3500's connector is physically damaged.

If OK, do a Cmd-Opt-P-R ten times and then let it (try to) boot.

The PRAM reset code is a little in some G3s, and one, or even five resets 
won't do it.
