The media connector is probably at fault.

The Kanga (and most others) use a separate connector for an IDE-type
media as for a floppy-type media.

A test of CD-ROM vs. Floppy wouldn't be that interesting as each of these
media use completely different connectors.

However, a Zip vs. a Floppy would be interesting as both of these media
share the same connector.

I beg to differ, but both the floppy and IDE devices use the SAME connector. Look in your bay - there's only ONE connector.


They do use different PINS on that connector, but it's the same connector.

Zip drives are IDE drives. The CD-ROM drive is an IDE drive. Both use the same signals on the same pins on the same connector.

A floppy drive is unique and is wired directly to the SWIM floppy controller using unique pins/signals on the same connector as the IDE devices.
