I am not unaware that raw values are teetering--that was why (when I have something to sell, that is) I always try to add value in some way, and stress machine condition and care. I believe I sell in good faith. I would say KG has it right--"it depends on what someone's looking for at a given time...[the 3400's] still very capable in OS 9."
I tend to believe that unless it's a Rembrandt or something, a seller in an eBay auction will not get his/her full value to make the sale. This may be artificially driving prices down--hence Craig's comment. RB said he only got $137.50 for his full-loaded 3400/180 on eBay, and he was rightfully disappointed.
Oh well. I wasn't hot to sell my 3400, just offering up if an interested buyer was out there. It is a great machine. I will keep it before I give it away.

The note from Gary and my reply re: his 3400/240, brings up an interesting
point for discussion on this list (even though a sale listing might not be
appropriate), to wit, on what basis do you make a proper approximation of
value in a shrinking market for vintage and near-vintage machines,
especially PowerBooks?

I have been amazed recently by the decreasing value of the Powerbook G3 series. Earlier this year they were going for close to $200.00; now I see the 233mhz - 266mhz versions rarely clearing $150.00, and have seen perfectly working 233mhz (I and II) go for around or under $100. ...snip...

With a 3400c, it depends on what someone's looking for at a given time.
Certainly $200 is on the upper end of what they sell for, but I've seen a
fully loaded 3400/240 sell in that range recently. The only real drawback to
a 3400 is that you can't reasonably run OS X on it, but it's still very
capable in OS 9.
