Was it a Powerbook specific CD ? ( Not absolutely necessary )
You probably should have had to deal with an installer icon and agree to the license agreement and offered the chance of a custom install.
The CD should boot by holding down the " C " key after hitting the power button and hearing the startup chime.
Did you press any reset button to dump NVRAM ?
You ,may have to use disk setup to format the disk also. Use HFS + format.
