Should be pretty simple: if you have a hub, then use a straight through Ethernet cable. If no hub, use a cross-over Ethernet cable. Enable AppleTalk to use Ethernet (by default, it will use the modem/printer port), and you should be able to see the other Mac via the chooser. I'm assuming here that you allowed yourself to log on as a user.
