Bill, After responding to our off list correspondence. I shockingly and with embarasement realized that I can plug in a RJ-45 jack in the back of the 3400. But, I coudn't find an "internal ethernet" option in TCP/IP or appletalk control panels. So I looked in Apple Profile and find no internal ethernet card installed.

Guess like everthing else, some have it, some don't.

Subject: Internal Ethernet not working

Hi Power-Mac-ers,

I bought a used 3400c, and am having trouble getting
the internet working on it.

As a way to test my system settings, etc, I took out
the hard drive, temporarily installed it another 3400c
(which has another problem.) I can access the internet
on it, so that tells me the system/software is set up
correctly.

Next, I exchanged the built-in Ethernet card with the
working one from the other 3400c and still can't get
it to work.

Can anyone think of any other possibilites to
check/replace?

I'm wondering if it could be the chip on the main
logic board, that controls the internal ethernet card.
I assume there's one. Defective logic board, but only
for this one function? Have others had this problem?

Next question; If I buy a PCMCIA card with Ethernet,
what are the chances that will work in this computer,
since the built-in Ethernet doesn't work?

Thanks to everyone who gave responses to my previous
questions!

Bill
