I'ts amazing to think that I've been using a PCMCIA ethernet card
all this time while having an internal ethernet system.

Vicki's idea is intriguing, but Im sure I installed OS9.1
from disc.

And thanks for the offer Vicki.
For now, I doubt I'll find time to fix something
for which I have an acceptabe work-around.

Thanks,
Cliff

Hi I think that what might of happened is someone has just made a disc
copy of a working system they had and transferred it to the 3400 either
via cd or appletalk serial , and the system they made it from never had
ethernet, possibly a 1400 or 5300. disc image.

that could explain the lack of ethernet in the system profiler

i would suggest a complete erase and install of the system.
also if that does not work i have a complete 3400 in parts minus the
128mb ram card i sold that you could use to test the various bits.
