While the buzzing is annoying, it doesn't necessarily mean
impeding doom. The transformers in those are usually "potted"
in epoxy to prevent the transformer core (iron plates) from
buzzing. Some are potted, some are not.  In any event there
often comes a time when those plates get a little loose and
the buzzing begins.  This happens with fluorescent lights
(ballasts) and with many other AC-driven systems.

Except that these power supplies are switch mode and operate at 10KHz or more. The cores are composite, not laminated. They may whine but they shouldn't buzz. Buzzing is something else altogether.


So please don't panic.  But don't try to insulte the beast by
wrapping it in insulation to muffle the noise.  That's a near-
certain way to fry it.
