Hi,
I was searching on apple menu and find some like extension manager, i
put on "selected set" MAC OS 8.5 ALL and the CD-Rom started to run,
great. (Yes, the powerbook i bought has 8.5.1 and i bought The Mac OS
8.6 Book by Mark R. Bell (1999) and the CD "Install OS 9.1- AppleWorks -
Quicken 2000 and more!!" - they will arrive the next week-). I also
bought an APPLE POWERBOOK G4 DVD-CDRW COMBO DRIVE, i do not know it it
will run on my powerbook 1400, if not, i will sell you :-)
The battery has 6.7 Volt and the manual i downloaded from apple says 14,
so, the battery is death. What is the funcion of the BATTERY RECONDITION
software my powerbook has?
How can i connect by ethernet (The powerbook has and expansion ethernet
card) my powerbook 1400 and my Pentium III XP direct by net cable
without a hub?, i read that if i run linux i can use SAMBA, so, MAC
8.5.1 (Or 9.1) to XP?
I have not test the ethernet card yet, how can i do it without connection?
How can i uninstall a program? (remember, I am a WINTEL user, until now
:-))
The computer came without manual or CD, so, i have read that there is a
POWERBOOK 1400 install and aplication CD, with 7.5 or so MAC OS,
including tutorials and the cover design program, where can i get it?
On my old compaq contura 386 laptop and my toshiba satellite 2100 CDS,
if i put on starting the F10 key i will run SETUP to configure and set
the BIOS, i bought an ibook powerbook 10 gb hard drive on eBay and i
need to know how configure it before installing or the powerbook 1400 do
it by itself?
I also bought a Compact Flash 56K PC Card Modem Kingston Technology, i
will wait until i receive to ask for help.
I really want to know about MAC OS and i like the powerbook 1400, i will
invest some money on this beautiful machine (Including a 512 Mb Compact
Flash Card and reader as VM), so please, HELP ME.
In Venezuela it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get some Apple or Macintosh
information (Or equipments), everybody is wasting the money (Like i did)
buying P4 and XP to write a letter, send email, play solitary or browse
Internet.
Thanks,
Marcel.
A: The G4 drive will not work on a 1400. If I remember correctly, the
only CD-RW drives that work on a 1400 are SCSI, if there are any.
B: The Battery Reconditioner is a program to completely drain the
battery so you can recharge it and not have a memory effect. Do that
once a month, at the least. Preferably twice a month.
C: Linux really isn't needed, considering how good the Mac OS is.
However, you can run the 1400 on a Wintel network quite happily.
D: To uninstall a program, delete the folder it's stored in. Make sure
you also get the alias on the Desktop, if you have one.
E: Check eBay for the 1400 Recovery CD. You shouldn't need it, though.
F: There is no BIOS on a Mac, per se, so there is no need. To configure
a drive, install the drive and then start the computer with a boot disk
in the CD or Floppy drive.
F: A 56K modem should work in the PC card slot without any special
drivers. The generic one works for my Xircom modem on my 190 running 7.5.3
Finally, welcome to the list. I switched to the Mac OS earlier this
year, with a wonderful PB 190, and I have never looked back on my Wintel
days, even though I do admin on Windows, *nix and Mac (Classic and OS
X). I know about the overkill machines, and I'm guilty of that, also. (I
have a G3 Lombard coming in that is loaded to the gills with cool
stuff.) I hope you can find plenty of help for your first forays into
MacLand, and that this helps a little.
Thanks,
Caleb
