I see; so it does that when you try to boot it up using only the AC, AND using only the battery? I am not sure (other members of the list may have more pertinent input) but I would start with the PMU board located under the HD cage. Outside of replacing it, checking to see if it is firmly seated on the motherboard, as well as making sure the wire cable connecting it and the PRAM battery is properly connected, may pay off.
