Actually, the drivers for the Microsoft Intellimouse series are 
essentially a re-packaged version of the wonderful shareware title, USB 
Overdrive.

Personally, I've had great results with a generic PCI USB 1.1 card with 
both the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer and the Applo Pro Mouse (also 
optical).
