Dang! I figured fer sure the 120 mHz (and 80 mHz) models were rare enough to assure me a jelly centered treat! The 120 mHz model had a 'peltier' cooler attached to the PPC601 CPU. It was also found on the daughtercard of the PowerCurves. Apple maxed that CPU out at 110 mHz in the 8100 series. >> Put in a new Pram battery and the old girl should be right as rain. > >I guess that makes sense. Another easy test I'd forgotten about--but I >wouldn't expect an 8100 clone to exhibit that behavior. Neither did I until my Power 100 'died'. Ordinarily, one would still expect the bong but no video, as in the 6100's. It may be due the architecture of the Power 120, which have a daughtercard for various functions built into the mobo of the 8100's I remember the pleasant surprise I first got when I checked out the System Profiler of my Power 100 and saw the unit identified as a Mac 8100...=) At the time, the used unit I bought was $650 whereas the 8100's were still pushing $1100 or so. Equipped with a used Radius GX1600 @ $250, it was a darn fine machine, and lasted until I was able to move up to a PCI equipped PowerCenter, and witness the advantage of PCI video card technology with CAD software.
