thanks for the reply.

Well, I have drives on both busses.

An IBM DCAS 32160 is internal.

It's the 2930BU, OEM card. No way, no how can I get any support on this
card form Adaptec. Any other 2930 card is fully supported. As it is, I
have still been able to garner some info on the 2930 series. Cable length
is well within the 1.5 meter max. A "problem" though may be that the
housings for the externals (a Seagate 318417N 18 gig and Seagate 39140N 8
gig) both use Centronics-style 50-pin connectors. And am I to assume that
the N in their model designation refers to narrow? I specifically asked
for Ultra, and in fact both drives were listed as Ultra SCSI on web sites
& catalog adds.

I've stayed current with FWB's HDTool kit. I'm up to 4.5, while running
8.6. I'm not aware of SCSI Probe.

No, not a click. More like a scream of agony. :-)

I listed the model numbers above, form Apple System Profiler.

No, it's Board Control. It shipped with the computer. V 2.0.1A, with a
copyright date of 1996. I recently tried to install a control application
down loaded form Adaptec's sight, but when I tried to install, it said
that there were no compatible cards installed. Other 2930 cards were
listed, but not the OEM 2930BU. Traditionally, it has been impossible to
garner any form of support form Adaptec on this card.

Actually, I've reduced the transfer rate on the 18 gig drive to 13mhz. It
seems to be behaving, and I haven't stressed the 8 gig recently to really
be sure of it's performance.

Thanks, so far this one has been enough, considering my lack of time to
really respond. :-)

Thanks again, Bill.
