I thought I read that Mac OS X can't be used as a startup disk on an external scsi.

I have an older iMac (think it's 266) with a 4 gig hd. I'd like to add a usb external drive for more storage, and to be the startup disk (the way I use firewire for my newer 450 iMac startup disk). I got the older iMac because it was being thrown away (they though it was broke)

Can I install a new Mac OS from my newer iMac to the older iMac using the Airport Extreme I have installed? My disk is a dvd, which the older iMac can't read.

OR if I installed the OS (Panther) on an external usb drive, could I then attach that external drive to the older iMac, which now has Jaguar installing, go into the startup panel and choose the external drive, and then be running Panther, using the external usb drive as a startup disk?

Thanks for your help, folks,

Doug
