Any CDROM from an Apple computer should be readily recognized by the Mac OS, regardless of which clone is being used. Third party support via the likes of FWB were necessary to allow use of cdrom drives which were cheaper due their absense of ROM recognizing calls from the Mac OS driver. I remember reading once that the 'C' key command might not work in the case of keyboards that were third party, another case of non-compliance with certain standards set by Apple. Back in the clone day, many users were willing to put up with, or didn't have these minor issues due use of the startup cd which came with the computer and carried all the necessary drivers. As Apple dropped official support for clones around about OS8, and as many of us are still using clones, albeit with much later versions of the MacOS, it becomes necessary to fiddle fart around with the components to get everything working smoothly. One way to reduce the problems is to use components such as cdrom's and hard drives from Apple products. The caveat here with PowerComputing goods is that any of the computers based on PowerComputing's marvellous version of the Mac 7200 'Catalyst' motherboard (PowerCurve/Center/CenterPro) do not recognize Apple CPU's due the absense of a sensing line (Apple never did want 7200 users to have the same flexibility as those who sprung for the 7500's) Cheers...Michael -- Power Computing is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Power Computing list info: <http://lowendmac.com/power/list.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/powercomputing%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
