Hello,

I am beyond upset at what has recently happened as an upgrade I did 
with Powermail...  But, more importantly, the lack of ANY response by 
the folks at ctmdev...

A bit of history may be in order.. First of all, I migrated to a Mac 
platform about 5 years ago, before that all of my email was handled on 
UNIX..  I began using the included Outlook Express and setup all of my 
email accounts (my web sites have a total of about 15 different email 
addresses)..  Everything was working great, then I upgraded to OS-X and 
found the OS-X email program to basically suck.. So I purchased 
Powermail and I was actually very pleased with it.. I think I've been 
using it for about a year now...

My mailbox had over 80,000 emails in it spanning business and personal 
communication for the past 10 years...   Before anyone goes thinking I 
am completely stupid -- all of my "important" emails (I.E. ones which 
kick of my alphanumeric pager) automatically get forwarded to a special 
archive account...

Nevertheless, when I upgraded to the latest version of Powermail I was 
shocked to see that I could no longer READ ANY OF MY EMAIL BECAUSE THE 
PRODUCT THOUGHT I WAS NOT REGISTERED (!!!!)..

So now I've got a situation where I can't read any of my email and thus 
can't get to the email which has my code in it...  it's a chick-and-egg 
problem and it's presence in this software is outrageous (!).. To not 
be able to send or check email is one thing but to BE LOCKED OUT OF MY 
EXISTING EMAIL???  INEXCUSABLE!!!..  And the lack of clear directions 
on backing things up is appalling.

As a result of my frustration I tried everything to open up my email in 
the old version, eventually fumbling and overwriting my (almost 400mb) 
Message Database file with an older backup that was made about 6 months 
ago...  I was unable to recover my original file and lost an 
unbelievable amount of electronic receipts and other important email 
because of this..

I wrote an email to ctmdev almost a week ago and another one about 4 
days ago... I have not heard A SINGLE THING FROM THEM and still have 
not gotten my registration code....

I've now just sent a request for a refund of my money...

You guys just lost an extremely loyal customer.  I cannot believe that 
you would PREVENT A USER WHO IS UPGRADING FROM READING THEIR EMAIL 
(!)....  I think you are exposing your customers to WAY TOO MUCH RISK 
and that if they knew this might be a problem - you probably would have 
a lot less customers...  To say nothing of your lack of support...

So allow me admonish new and existing users of Powermail:

#1. This software will LOCK YOU OUT OF YOUR EMAIL WHEN/IF YOU UPGRADE 
AND YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR ACCESS CODE!  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN IT 
UP IN YOUR PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED VERSION!

#2. CTMDEV is apparently very uninterested in helping customers who 
experience problems with an upgrade.

I don't even know how to end this.. I know I made some mistakes in this 
upgrade, but there is a VERY serious flaw in the lack of features (like 
being able to read your fricken email after an upgrade!) here... And 
the lack of support is just insulting and outrageous given the severity 
of the problem....
