Subject: Powernet: Portal monitor

Greetings all...

After attending the Canberra User's Group Meeting last week, it came to
light that some facilities perform the Daily Source Check on their
Portal Monitors differently.

Thus the basis for my question...

Does your facility source check each detector of your portal monitor
using the alarm test function (like the Argos or PM-7)?

We source check every detector daily

Or

Do you source check your portal monitor by placing the source in the
middle of the monitor using the alarm test function?

We use a jig to position the sources over each detector on the ARGOS-5AB
monitors using the test function.

Or

Do you source check your portal monitor by having a technician step into
the monitor (in normal) with the source on their person?

On the GEM-5 the technician holds the source in close proximity to their
body and passes through multiple times to test and verify each detector.
Recently someone pointed out that we may not be following ANSI N323
because the standard speaks of using a repeatable geometry. So we may be
changing this process and start using a jig to assure a repeatable
geometry for this test.

Or, something else?

Thanks in advance for your responses...
