Duke Energy fleet response as follows:

1. Does your plant use all seven compartments per Regulatory Guide 8.40,
Table 1 when using EDEX (i.e. every multipack has seven dosimeters)?

Yes and no. By procedure, we have multipack "templates". The need/use of the
multipack determines the pack type and thus how many dosimeters are in it. The
maximum number of whole-body locations monitored would be 8 (7 compartments
defined by RG 8.40 and 1 on the Back that is a combination of chest and abdomen
weighting factors). Functionality within Sentinel V1.11 allows us monitor the
chest, abdomen, and back with 3 separate dosimeters and treat them as "one"
compartment. If you would like to know details, you can contact me directly
and I will describe it.

2. If "No" to #1 and your site combines compartments, what locations do
you group together?

Depending on the pack type, the chest, abdomen, and back may be grouped
together with a single weighting factor. We also have a procedure option to
use the "shield" method described in RG 8.40 C.3.c (on page 6), which involves
combining compartments.

3. Has your site performed any calculations to determine the delta in
total EDEX dose using all seven dosimeters versus the overall dose using
combined compartments? If "Yes", would you be willing to share your results
with me at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>?

Not on a regular basis that I am aware of. In my opinion, monitoring the most
locations possible will give you the most accurate results. Compartments
should only be combined if job performance or safety would be adversely
impacted wearing the full set of dosimeters. (confined space entry for example)
