if you read the bottom then read my answer it will make sence i ran sp1 for 3 years ive had xp since it came out now 3 months after i upgrade i get a corrupt C:/windows/system32/config/system message on boot

ok so i fix that

at least long enough to back up my entire harddrive hence i reinstall update it all the way hence again the same thing happens i get the same message a few months later now i begin to wonder reinstall and dont use sp2 since all trouble seams to start from sp2 im guessing this goes back to a patch they released to fix the exact problem was undone by sp2. i believe it depends on how you use your system i use mine for a range from gameing to surfing the forums.

I would like to give my 2 cents worth to the people who have had trouble with booting apprently i have had the same thing i do tf but i got a corrupt file now heres the thing all of it started after sp2 do you booth have sp2 if so i would susgest you get rid of it i had no trouble with sp1 but sp2 is a killer it seams to have some issues with a file that gets corrupted or to large and hten sys wont boot and will give you a error message with a folder named system. I believe sp2 is culprut.

thats HORRIBLE advice, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with SP2 if your software is legitimate and you're not running some other buggy stuff that breaks under SP2.

the primary reason for SP2 problems are pirated license keys ('DeViLsOwN' 'corporate' stuff, etc).

I have been running prime95 24/7 on a variety of XP machines, before and after SP2, and have had no problems with it. *EVERY* time I've had a prime95 related problem, its been flakey hardware.
