The natural way to reply appears to be at the top (reading bottom-up) unless one wants to quote multiple parts and reply to each in paragraph form.
have you ever seen a digest? more than 1/3rd of the ~680 readers of this list get the digest format where a whole day's messages are combined into one.. digests full of topposting with entire message quotes such as yours are unreadable messes. top-posted replies to top-posted messages get even messier.
