I'd expect multiple blobs to almost guarantee air voids getting trapped
and INSULATING between the heatsink and CPU.

Use a small single blob of grease on the centre of the CPU package and
place the heatsink on top in one move. You can carefully twist the
heatsink to encourage the grease to spread more evenly. The heatsink
spring should do the rest to complete the even spreading.


Try again and compare the temperatures.
