SATURDAY, AUGUST 9
5AM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: PATTY HEARST (http://headliners.msnbc.com)
Her abduction shocked the nation and still sparks debate today. Did Patty Hearst
voluntarily join the group that kidnapped her? Did she fall in love with a captor, or
was it her means of survival? Was she truly a bank robber? Or just scared out of her
mind?
6AM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: MANSON WOMEN
It's one of the most gruesome crimes in American history. Seven people, including a
beautiful actress and a wealthy heiress, are murdered in Los Angeles. Charles Manson
was the force behind the killings, but it was his mistresses who had blood on their
hands. In this episode of Headliners & Legends, see the so-called "Manson murders"
from the women's point of view.

In National Geographic Ultimate Explorer's "Ultimate Snake," Dr. Rivas takes viewers
on a global adventure to habitats others fear to enter on a quest for the world's
constrictors. From the wilds of Australia to the swamps of Venezuela, from the island
of Puerto Rico to the plains of South Africa and beyond, Dr. Rivas goes head-to-head
with these alleged man-eaters, showing just why these remarkable creatures have
inspired legend, fear and reverence across the world.
9PM ET
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: RAISING THE USS MONITOR
U.S. Navy Commander Bobbie Scholley battles the unpredictable waters off the coast of
Cape Hatteras, N.C., on a mission to recover the 140-year-old wreck of the USS
Monitor, the most famous of the Union Navy's ironclad ships in the Civil War. If they
succeed, this Civil War relic will leave its watery crypt for a place in the Mariners'
Museum in Newport News, Va., as one of the most famous artifacts in U.S. naval
history.
10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: SWAT: ON THE FRONT LINES (http://investigates.msnbc.com)
Police work has changed dramatically in recent years. Criminals seem more daring,
more violent and equipped with fire-power. How do police contain explosive
situations? Departments across the country have elite forces, called "SWAT Teams",
who go up against the most dangerous and violent criminals. It's up to the SWAT teams
to do what other police officers aren't trained to do: to get inside a criminal's
mind. In essence, to predict the unpredictable. It's dangerous, frightening work.
Come with us as we go on the job, and behind the scenes with the SWAT team, where we
will feature astonishing caught-on-tape incidents revealing the tactics and skills of
America's police and FBI SWAT teams.
11PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: CAPTURED: ON THE BEAT
Since 1994 we've been tracking officers on patrol in one of LA's most dangerous
communities. We had rare access to these cops, on the job. They share with us their
candid and often controversial views about what it means to keep the peace. MSNBC
profiles the police who patrol one of the most dangerous parts of L.A. - South Central.
12AM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: BOMB SQUAD
There's nothing more horrifying than a terrorist's attack -- and sadly today it has
become a universal fear, mostly because of bombs. But Bombs aren't just for
terrorists. Teenagers who know how to click on to the Internet can learn how to build
bombs. We saw it at Columbine. Today, nearly every major police department has a
bomb squad. Their job is a unique mix of hi-tech science and raw nerve. In this
program, you will see them in action. Learn how dangerous their job and our world has
become. Understand how they get into the mind of the enemy, and find out why they do
the jobs they do. An investigation on how America's bomb squads use new technology &
new techniques to disarm explosive devices.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: THUNDER DRAGON
On the tropical island of Sri Lanka, EXPLORER follows the trials of the intimidating
8-foot long water monitor lizards as they battle bullying cobras, avoid cannibalistic
companions, feast on baby rats, and fight each other for dominance. While modern law
protects the monitor lizard from being human prey, home is full of threats -- sea
eagles, acid-spraying ants, snakes and cannibalistic adult monitor lizards.
7PM ET
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: LORDS OF THE EVERGLADES (PREMIERE)
The saw grass prairie and mangrove swamp of the Florida Everglades is home to two
extraordinary ancient cousins: the endangered American crocodile and the alligator.
Eventually Cleo finds an unlikely refuge -- the cooling channels of Turkey Point
Nuclear Power Plant -- home to 30 percent of Florida's endangered crocodile population
and accessible only to biologists. For Cleo and the other resident crocs, it's a haven
safe from human encroachment.
8PM ET
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ULTIMATE EXPLORER: WOMEN SMOKEJUMPERS (PREMIERE)
National Geographic Ultimate Explorer host Lisa Ling gets an inside look at the danger
and fury of wildfires as she joins some of the female firefighters who battle these
blazes in the American West. In this hour, women come to smoke jumping from varied
backgrounds, often with competitive athletic training, wild land firefighting
experience and a love for outdoor adventure that matches that of their male
counterparts.
9PM ET
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: TSUNAMI: KILLER WAVE
Usually created by undersea earthquakes and volcanoes, killer waves can race across
entire oceans at more than 500 miles an hour, measure a hundred feet or more, and
swallow cities whole, leaving thousands dead. EXPLORER joins scientists as they study
this elemental killer. Their work is critical, not only to prepare and protect us,
but also, hopefully, to better predict nature's fury.
10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: WILDFIRES
We're about to go to the front lines in the battle to save Montana, where thousands of
homeowners watched in horror as their lives and property were threatened.
Firefighters of all kinds raced to stop the worst fires since the '50s, working to
contain the worst wildfires in the West in more than half a century, and a look at the
growing problem of wild forest fires. John Seigenthaler hosts.
