As a follow up to this, though it prints okay, using guten-print, to the
printer I found that it does it very slowly (I don't thing the data xfer
is keeping up with the printers requirements). Also I could not get it
to print on printable CDs (printer keeps ejecting them).

So I thought I would see if there was any other drivers out there that
could be used with the "Epson Stylus Photo R200" printer and were
faster. What I found was the "Photo Image Print System" (PIPS) from
http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_ink.html, it has various public
licenses (GPL, LGPL and "EPSON AVASYS Public License"
http://avasys.jp/hp/menu000000700/hpg000000603.htm).

So I downloaded the variant for the R200/210 printer and tried to build
it on Solaris sparc. Problem was that the tarball contains a number of
pre built binaries that have to be linked into the bits being built.
Needless to say these pre built binaries are of the wrong type, so I was
unable to build this successfully. The contents of these binaries seem
to be proprietary to the "EPSON KOWA Corporation".

I was unable to find any source code for these binaries, and asked about
them here ....
http://www.avasys.jp/cgi-bin/lx/bbs/en/ink-bbs/hyperbbs.cgi?mode=view;Code=977
but so far have had no response.

Has anyone else on this list tried to build, and use, any of the PIPS
variants for Epson printers?

Paul
