I just had a thought on your 'cut off the bottom of the page' problem,
but its probably not the reason for it .....

If one prints, saying use a page size of X, to a printer with paper size
Y (which has a length smaller than X) then I think that would cause it
to chop of the bottom and maybe the top of page. Ie. if one prints 'A4'
output to a printer/queue with 'Letter' paper then, whoops, its probably
lost a few lines. But if one is printing 'Letter' to 'Letter' then
hopefully all should be well.

So, here in the UK printer we use A4 paper, if I setup a print queue and
then change its ppd file to say 'Legal' paper size (ie. longer than a4)
and set /etc/sfw/a2ps-site.cfg medium size to 'Legal' also; then doing a
test print using 'lp -d myprinter testpage.txt' then the printed output
gets chopped. With the paper size set correctly to A4, in the PPD file
and /etc/sfw/a2ps-site.cfg file, then it prints okay.

Just a thought :-)
