There are two parts needed to print to a windows hosted printer. First, you need a transport to get the job there. Since Solaris comes with SAMBA, smbspool will perform that for you. Next, you need to transform the data into a printer ready format before you send it to the Windows host. The additional open source printing packages that went into Solaris 9u6 and later do this (foomatic, ghostscript, gimp-print, ...) The current OpenSolaris source base and Solaris Express contain changes that make it easy to configure this through the printmgr.
