Got to agree, with the 'auto' bit. I like to tell the softwre what I want to
create. Not let some software engineer dictate.

On the bit about pivoting around the center line of the image. What happens
with all the area you will need to clone? Sometimes the effort in creating
the extra data is a PITA.

You just need to shoot with a wider angle lens, and use the full width of
the frame at the top or bottom, depending on if the camera is pointing up or
down.
