I was talking about 20mpx cameras for less than ten grand Dear Red and others,
Surely if you interpolated up you would be found out through the present exif data ???. I don't know what all the fuss is about really. It is obvious now that the 6m pixel cameras/ (s2 d100/d1x d60 and the new 11 mpixel d1s), quality is better than 35mm. Seeing that a lot of the more off the wall images seem to be more and more shot on 35mm then as long as the proved track record of the photographer is checked out I really don't see what the problem is. Yes there are larger format backs out there and yes they do produce fantastic quality just like 10/8 and 5/4 do. However there is stuff they can't do as easily. With first generation images from a 35mm body, rather than produce and re scan etc. There is less error introduced. As long as the orginal image is shot as a raw file with max info that should be fine ????. Its seems that the library market doesn't really have the knowledge and understanding and probable they are having their fingers burnt by people stretching the truth and providing different qualities. The consequences of interpolation and how it can be done well !!!!. Maybe as a group we should be producing informative factsheets for the libraries. I know there are a lot of people out there submitting 35mm transparencies for libraries so why not 6megapixel files ????, if there is no moire there etc, then fine. I think it may become that the argument becomes well images produced on 35mm bodies have a different feel. There is a massive trends toward square images at the moment which you would be mad to crop to on 35mm shape. I feel the library thing is more about the fact that at least they know what they have with film and larger format digital images and there is less chance someone is not submitting in the correct format etc. I am producing massive joiners with my d100 at the moment so file size will not be a problem. I have spoken to a few libraries and they are extremely bemused by this as they done understand file sizes, that an 18mb 6 megapixel image contains as much data as an 80mb 35mm scan. I may have got my wires crossed but that is the jist I have got from the list over the last 4 years.
