Stephen, Both are fine lenses, the 24-70 having a slight edge in sharpness terms. I use both on a daily basis with 1Ds and 1D and no issues. Personally I like the combination of both, depending on the shots required + a 70-200is. Beware the latter with a 1.4 xteleconvertor ( at least the mark 1 teleconvertor), the results can be quite nasty. HTH, NickWb
