I investigated this a few months ago for myself. I currently run O/S 9.2 and
have cause to transmit pictures via a mobile phone from a G3 Powerbook. I
use a Nokia 6310i phone which was free, subject to a twelve month contract
and a Palladio USB data cable which was around 30.00.

You just load the CD and transfer the drivers onto your system, select the
right port for your phone and away you go.

The system seems to work fine, I use it usually two to three times a week.
However after about six months of regular use you get muck building up on
the contacts of the phone unit, so they need regular cleaning with a rubber
(that's an eraser rather than a condom).

I also investigated Bluetooth and Data Packet transfer and I thought they
were a bit expensive in comparison.

Note that when you transmit/receive data via mobile the transfer rate is
only about 10000bps as opposed to around 30000bps down a landline so it is
quite a bit slower for big files.

Any more queries, feel free to get in touch.
