The correlation between contrast and Gamut Warning is more sensitive than I expected ( I always thought it was almost only color-dependent) but slight changes in any tool in PS, (levels, curves, you name it) may create the presence or absence of a warning,at least in paintings.
Dear Jorge
You probably notice how even a small change in contrast alters the saturation in an image...that's the answer <BG>
Any advice on this will be apprciated, since this opens up both a can of worms and some additional possibilities I had not previously considered, just for remaning "safe" , working by the book..
IMHO there is only one safe way to evaluate what's going to happen on press, apart from actually running it. This is to have it printed out from your CMYK files on a proofer capable of producing contract proofs that realistically replicates the output of the printer on your chosen paper stock.
This subject is very close to home as for the last couple of days we have had a colour management expert setting up our new Canon W2200 proofer with the latest version of the BestColor Colorproof rip. This also involved the profiling of five different papers. I have to say that I am absolutely delighted with the quality of the results, and the perfect match across the whole range of papers, together and the smoothness and neutrality of the greyscales.
We had previously been running a BestColor rip with an Epson 5000 quite successfully, but I felt when proofing work for quality printing and certainly when going to screen rulings greater than 200lpi, that it was not as good as it needed to be.
There is a possibility that this new facility will be made available to imaging professionals needing to see their work decently proofed. Whether or not we do offer such a service will be dependent on the likely demand. I therefore invite anyone in the UK, or further afield, likely to be interested to get in touch with me ...off list of course please. This is your opportunity to put forward a 'wish list' of requirements, so that a service that properly caters for your needs can be worked out.
Cheers
