All of a sudden I have the same problem with an external Firewiredisk.
Diskutility finds it and so does Diskwarrior (no problems they say) but
it
wont mount. (no problems on other comps). Im afraid theres a problem
with
my firewireconnectors but before I hand it in for repair Id like to try
the
Unix utlities you mentioned above. Care to tell where I can find them?

Oh heck,

I dont think you do, but ...

I dont have a functional OSX machine hereabouts so I cant check
anything

I suggest searching the apple site and other UNIX resources on the web
for simpler explanations when you have some of the jargon

You can issue a range of commands when you boot using (I think) command
S and you are faced with a screenfull of text

>From there you have limited capacity to receive help (you can also
research or do this using the unix terminal/consol which is in your
applications>utilities folder

Try issue the command apropos mount
Or apropos any other search term that you hope to find info on (ie disk
or format etc etc)

It should list a number of unix commands which have that term in their
man files (help files)

If you see one that interests you (such as mount or fsck) then type the
command man mount

I think it is control z to exit scrolling though a man pages help on
that command - some pages are many pages long (you can do man man to
see all about the man program)

Once you have done all that you will in all likelihood find it more
comfortable to live with a non functioning computer than attempt to
drive unix.
