Regarding the Minolta, it's a good scanner and if memory serves, there
has been a fair amount of discussion on ProDIG about it since July when
it came out. There are also an increasing number of reviews on the web,
just go to Google, you'll see what I mean and then there is
comp.periphs.scanners as Michael suggests. The quality of these reviews
is variable though but DP Review and Rob Galbraith, Digital Darkroom,
Luminous Landscape et al are good sources IMHO.

I've used it for about four months and had considered the Nikon as an
alternative but the price differential made me choose Minolta. I felt
that the fact that the Minolta had USB2 and Firewire in addition to the
highest resolution for a 35mm scanner on the market was a key point and
it also has to benefit from technological advances in the last two
years. The BJP (www.bjphoto.co.uk) did a review on it in their magazine
and gave it an excellent review, it was in the last month but I think
they'll have the review on their website and their consideration of its
capabilities was for professional purposes so you may take more stock in
their opinions versus generalised reviews from other sources.

I know there are a couple of guys on the list who have had some
reliability problems though.

Cheers

Alex
