I beg to differ. I did a fair bit of testing with both before purchasing
Capture One DSLR as I discovered the output from C1 is far better.

Most specifically C1 files have more shadow detail, smoother gradations from
dark to black areas, much less chromatic noise (esp. in grey areas) and
better overall colour fidelity.

This had sort of passed me by, and I assumed that there was little difference between Capture 1 and Adobe Camera RAW. Having just downloaded the C1 demo I agree with Matt. I find the quality difference particularly apparent at high ISO settings, where there is a lot less noise and smoother grads.

The problem is I am now tempted to buy C1 but of course there is the new photoshop waiting in thew wings. Does anyone know if the changes in photoshop CS extend to any improvements in the RAW import? Adobe's site is a bit vague about it. Obviously if it is improved then it might be worth waiting, if not I will go ahead and get C1- a little reluctantly 'cos the processing stage is awfully slow, but the results are noticeably better.

Anyone know?
