I always carry a laptop when shooting with the 1Ds, but I never shoot to it tethered.
Instead I shoot to 1Gb CF cards, insert them into the side of my aging 15 inch Titanium G4, copy all the camera files to a folder, open them in iView, immediately make an iView catalogue and as soon as I possibly can burn the whole folder (including the iView catalogue) to a CD for safe keeping.
I then empty the card for re-use, leaving me with the files duplicated on
a) the hard disk b) the back-up CD
Copying the files to the hard disk makes them about five times quicker to handle since the CF card speeds and CD read speeds are very slow compared to fast internal drives.
If I have time I then examine and flag frames that look promising
The facility to examine and magnify images on the 1Ds camera is remarkable poor compared to it's cheapo baby brother the 10D, which is excellent. I expect that to be one of the changes in the next grown up Canon.
