Not so - IBM are already shipping test quantities of their new, faster chips to Apple for testing.

Reports suggest that the next-generation PMG5s will include a single-processor 2.0GHz entry-level model, a Dual 2.2GHz midrange model, and a Dual 2.4GHz model. Out of those, only the 2.4GHz model is expected to employ the 90nm version of the 970 according to the reports. A mid-year update will bring 2.6 and 2.8GHz 90nm 970's, followed shortly by the Powerbook G5 (1.6, 1.8, and 2.0GHz) based on the same chips.

In September of next year, sources expect the announcement of a 3GHz+ system based on IBM's PowerPC 980 processor. Statements made by IBM employees to this site, and to several others, hinted as much when they attributed Steve Jobs' 3GHz-within-a-year statement to the 980 rather than the 970....

What? Is this for real? Where did you get it from?

Are you sure... ? :-)
