> In a nutshell what benifit is a RIP for printing? > Quite a new area for me as my old HP printer did all the thinking for me. > I will have a networked PC set up just for the printer
Hi I wondered this until I tried the ImagePrint RIP for my 9600. The range of profiles available and the superb Black and White performance (a major plus for me) led me to fork out for the software. I have it running on an OSX server, but it does PC just as well. The software also runs on any client machine which just sends jobs to the print server. A particular advantage of the state of the pound-dollar exchange rate at the moment is that Colorbyte were quite happy to accept orders from the UK and ship the media (very big savings:-) I had a minor installation problem - well it was a bug in the installer software - but they were most helpful. It was most likely the unusual server setup (an old souped-up Mac) that was the problem. One other advantage with a big printer is that you can set a paper size and drop files onto a window and the s/w will tile them for you. As an example, I got PS to make some contact sheets of a collection of shots. I dropped these on to ImagePrint and got a 44"x30" contact sheet, which impressed the client almost as much as the images :-) :-) bye for now Keith Cooper Northlight Images http://northlight-images.co.uk Photography - Digital Imaging - Apple Mac Consultancy Tel +44 (0)116 291 9092 Mobile +44 (0)780 162 9397 =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
