Corruption mystery

I was making some exposures during a dust spot check with my 1ds. Using C1 to process files. I noticed one file appeared in the Captures folder with this name tempc3jzBZ.TIF. It will not open in C1. It will open in PS if I overwrite a 'will not open' message which has some chinese characters mixed up in the message.

When open the file is 288 x 192 pixels although file info tells me it is 7.6Mb. A few pixels at the top are the colour of the sky in the picture. The rest of the image consists of random, bright coloured pixels. No two pixels are the same colour. Overall the effect is like a colour printing patch gone crazy. The saved file's thumbnail is roughly grey.

Using 'nearest neighbour' I have managed to upsize the file. It really is like some piece of Op Art from the sixties and rather beautiful.

Does anyone have any idea what caused it? For me the mystery is why every one of the pixels is a different colour.

PS The last time I had some interesting corrupt files I had a stock picture request for corrupt files 48 hours after I deleted them!
