Well it is not that it is impossible just not ideal.
Striped - is when you have several disks merged into one and data can be written across disks (so not dissimilar to what LaCie are doing).
So one file could be split between the two discs? Therefore if one disc goes down, data could be lost?
Yes but it is faster which is why Digital Video people often have it as a setup. Not sure if it is possible to RAID 5 a RAID 0 - and not sure if it is advisable.
